7 ancient Indian traditions that can be your secret to staying healthy! How many of these have you adopted?
▪️Chanting Aum – Om is considered a universal sound, the seed of all words without reference to any specific religion or god. It is not just one sound, but actually three. Different syllables vibrate at different sound frequencies & so they will resonate with certain organs & parts of the body. At a physical level, the Aum syllable addresses the whole of the human sound instrument: we open the mouth (‘a’), move the lips closer to each other (‘u’) and then close the mouth (‘m’). This activates the larynx fully. ‘A’ resonates in the stomach and chest, ‘u’ in the throat and chest and ‘m’ in the nasal cavity, skull & brain. By chanting Aum we move the energy from the abdomen up to the brain.
▪️Sitting on the floor & eating – This causes you to bend foward to pick your food & backward to eat, which gently massages your pancreas & stimulates digestion.
▪️The circadian way of living – Your brain receives signals based on light & day and activates certain hormones that help with different functions of the body. Everything we do – right from how we sleep, eat, digest and secrete certain hormones, to bowel movements and detoxification – works according to this circadian rhythm. Science shows that a disbalance can cause a host of heath problems.
▪️Surya Namaskar – Consisting of 7/8 asanas (12 steps), it not only strengthens your back & muscles but regular practise also helps in improving insulin control, metabolism, blood circulation & detoxification, digestion, hormonal balance & mental health.
▪️Indian thali – The thali is fantastic from the point of nutrition because it provides a balance of protein, carbs, good fats, fibre, minerals & vitamins. Plus cooking in pure desi ghee/quality oils & Indian spices (with their numerous medicinal properties) helps enhance the nutritional value of the food, boosting immunity & reducing inflammation.
▪️Meditation & pranayama – Not only does the practise boost your mental & emotional health but science shows that it helps in blood pressure control, heart, lung & brain health, detoxification & many more benefits.
▪️Namaste – When you join your hands, balance is brought to the left & the right sides of the brain, thus encouraging them to function as whole while also promoting harmony.Traditions are passed on from generation to generation. Some follow them, some challenge them, but how many actually try & understand the science & logic behind them?
